In our last post we talked about our vision for CityLife Church for this year and beyond. Here are some reflection questions as a follow up.
Reflection Questions
- How long have you been at your current church? What qualities attracted you to the church?
- The first disciples “devoted themselves” to a number of practices (Acts 2:42-47). What do you think an individual can realistically expect from the church and what must they be personally responsible for when it comes to their own discipleship? Consider the concept of being "self-feeding." As we mature, we gradually take more and more personal responsibility for our own health and grwoth, rather than depending solely on others.
- Beliefs are very important but why are practices or behaviours even more important? Consider the difference between “preferred values” and “actual values.”
- Becoming “fervent” will take more than attending one church gathering on a weekend. Just like no single meal, no matter how good it is, has the ability to give you energy for an entire week, so no one practice, event or activity has the power to get you to a palce of fervencey and keep you there. What are the types of activities and practices that could contribute to our spiritual health and vibrancy?
- On a fervency scale, where would you describe yourself as a disciple of Jesus right now: cold, lukewarm or hot? What are some factors that have contributed to this? What will it take to lift your spiritual temperature this year?
- Practices are like habits; they take time and repetition to develop. Reflect on your own experience with stopping bad habits and starting new more healthy ones.
- Ultimately, our decisions not our conditions determine our future destiny. What choices do you need to make today IF you want to become a more fervent follower of Jesus? [For those from Citylife, fill in the Journey of a Fervent Follower card with your decisions. You can spend time discussing some sample practices for each of the 4Es with a friend or in your Life Group]
God has a future and a hope for us (Jer.29:11). He has begun a good work in us and he is committed to finish what he has started (Phil.1:6). Let's keep in step with the Spirit this year, co-operating with God's intentions. Who knows that impact that could lead to!
