I highly recommend the chapter "Homosexual Marriage as a Challenge to the Church: biblical and cultural reflections" by Albert Mohler, in the excellent book 'Sex and the Supremacy of Christ', edited by John Piper & Justin Taylor. (free PDF download)

Mohler has some excellent points about approaching the debate in a more loving way, while remaining true to God's word. One point which stood out to me was that "We [the church] must be the people who love homosexuals more than homosexuals love homosexuality."
